Brandon Brooks to miss 2020 season with torn Achilles

Carson Wentz is now already without his best guard before the season even starts. Per Derrick Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Eagles Pro Bowl RG Brandon Brooks has torn his Achilles tendon during a workout today and will miss the entire 2020 season.

This is now Brooks’ 3rd injury in under 3 years, tearing his other Achilles in 2018 and dislocating his shoulder in the final game of the 2019 season, causing him to miss the Wildcard game. If anyone can come back from this, however, it’s Brandon Brooks. He returned from his first Achilles tear in just under 9 months and performed at a top-level, making his 3rd straight Pro Bowl. For a 340-pound man who turns 31 in August, there is some cause for concern this time around.

The injury bug has plagued the Eagles for the last 3 seasons and this year seems to be no different. The next man up to fill in Brooks’ role would be second-year guard Matt Pryor. Versatile rookie offensive tackle Jack Driscoll could also see some time if the Eagles don’t bring Jason Peters back. It’ll be tough to make up for the production of Brooks, who didn’t allow a single pressure in 8 games last season. Brooks also allowed just one sack on 605 pass-blocking snaps in 2019.
