Local pro ultimate frisbee team to play at Eagles halftime

If you’re going to the Eagles game this evening, it’d be wise to get your beers before halftime. Why? Our local professional ultimate frisbee team will be taking the field during the intermission and its set to be a barn burner between two AUDL foes.
You read that right. Frisbee.
I didn’t even know the city had a team, let alone an entire professional league. But here at The Liberty Line, it’s our job to report on everything Philly sports. Frisbee is no exception.
With that said, our very own Philadelphia Phoenix will be welcoming the D.C. Breeze to Lincoln Financial Field for an exhibition match. I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched a single second of ultimate frisbee, but I’ve got a feeling the Phoenix have this one in the bag.
Granted, I feel that way purely because they’re from Philly, and I’m the ultimate homer. But, also, D.C. Breeze is one of the dumbest names for a sports team I’ve heard in my entire life. Classic Washing D.C. team totally failing at branding. Indeed a tradition unlike any other.
Now before you go ahead and scoff and say, “Ultimate frisbee? Yeah, okay, pal.” I implore you to keep reading.
While I’ve never played the game, I was good friends with some guys and gals on my college’s ultimate frisbee team. And while everyone at Colby could drink (not much else to do in Maine), the ultimate frisbee kids were among the hardest partiers on campus. I’m dead serious.
Our frisbee team was so psycho they got social probation for two years solely for alcohol-related incidents. Pretty on brand for the team that taught me four beers will fit in a regulation-sized disc. That’s my kind of team.

A common sight when drinking amongst ultimate frisbee folks.
To that end, as I’ve continued my professional life beyond college, I’ve had a few coworkers that played or currently play ultimate frisbee, and they can knock beers back with the best of them.
I can guarantee you the players from both teams will most likely be getting rowdy in the concourse as soon as they finish up. Hell, they might even have a few before the game.
Even though it won’t be a full-length game (I think? I have no clue how long they are), it’ll surely be the biggest crowd these guys have ever played in front of. So I wouldn’t blame them if they took a couple shots of the brown before taking the field.
Hopefully we can get two big wins from both sets of Birds at the Linc tonight.
