Girardi: Zach Eflin likely to return on Tuesday for Padres series

According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies are hoping that Zach Eflin will return to the team and start on Tuesday when they open up a three-game series against the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park.
Eflin hasn’t started for The Phillies since May 1st, nearly two weeks ago. On May 8th, he and Zack Wheeler were both placed on the COVID-IL.Â
Zack Wheeler joined the Phillies last Thursday in Los Angeles. Wheeler tossed 5.1 innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, and a walk while striking out seven Dodgers batters in a 9-7 victory for the Fightins.
Eflin is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA over five games this season. While his ERA is certainly nothing to write home about, Eflin has a 2.92 FIP and a xERA of 2.76.Â
The Phillies getting their starting rotation in tact will be a huge lift as the offense has finally woken up on their current seven game road trip. After last night’s 8-3 win over the Dodgers, the Fightins are currently on a 5-1 road trip after going 1-4 on last week’s home stand.Â
Entering the series with the Phillies, the Dodgers pitching staff held a 2.26 ERA and only allowed more than five runs once this season. That obviously changed, with the Phillies putting up 9, 12, and 8 runs throughout the first three games of the series. They have scored 29 runs on 37 hits and will go for the sweep in Los Angeles last this afternoon.
On the season, the Phillies are now back to .500 at 17-17 and in second place in the National League East standings, 5.5 games behind the leading New York Mets.
