Giants trade former Phillies utility man Luke Williams to the Miami Marlins

Former Phillies player Luke Williams has been traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Miami Marlins in exchange for IF/OF Hayden Cantrelle.
Williams played for the Phillies last season, slashing .245/.315/.316 in 108 plate appearances. Back in March, the  Phillies shipped Williams to the Giants on Sunday in exchange for minor league third basemen Will Toffey.
Luke Williams Walk-Off Home Run
I always liked Williams, but finding a spot for him on the Phillies 40-man roster was becoming an issue. The Phillies designated Williams for assignment and rather than claiming him off waivers the Giants chose to work a deal with the Phils. By swapping him for Toffey, who is not on the 40-man roster, the Phillies got back a similarly skilled prospect with increased club control.
This season with the Giants, Williams slashed .250/.250/.333 in just 12 plate appearances in the big leagues. Now, Williams will head to Miami and join a Marlins team that has been a thorn in the Phillies side for the past several seasons.
Just our luck, Williams will join the Marlins in absolutely crushing the Phillies hopes and dreams of becoming a good baseball team this season.Â
The Marlins and Phillies will face off 12 more times before the season is over.
