Roman Quinn Clears Waivers, Elects Free Agency

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Roman Quinn cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week and as elected to become a free agent rather than reporting to AAA-Lehigh Valley.
The announcement came yesterday, after Quinn was designated for assignment by the Phillies last week. Quinn rejoined the Phillies back in April to provide outfield depth after spending the majority of his time with the Miami Marlins during free agency.
Quinn struggled at the major league level with the Phillies this season, slashing .162/.225/.189 across 23 games. I know there seems to be a lot of confusion as to why Quinn would leave rather than join the IronPigs in Lehigh Valley but honestly, this makes sense. Believe it or not, Quinn is 29 years old and hasn’t been able to find any type of consistency within the Phillies organization.
Clearly, he believes that he can find another opportunity elsewhere.
