Nick Sirianni ranks in top half of the PFF Head Coach Rankings heading into the 2022 season

Nick Sirianni definitely had an interesting first season as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. It started out with a miserable introductory press conference, leading into a bunch of mid-season media sessions about fertilizer and flowers, and ended with a trip to the playoffs.
Yes, Jalen Hurts was miserable at quarterback for the majority of the season and the Birds got absolutely destroyed by Tom Brady and the Bucs in the playoffs. Everyone knows that. Still, taking over for a team that just fired their Super Bowl winning coach and got rid of their “franchise quarterback” in Carson Wentz was no easy task.
Sirianni managed to turn a 4-11-1 team into a playoff team and left Eagles fans optimistic about the future. I’m not one to celebrate moral victories but last season could have been much worse, right?
Pro Football Focus released their NFL Head Coach Rankings heading into the 2022 season, with Nick Sirianni ranking in the top half of the NFL at number 14. He was the first coach listed in the Average Coaches category.
The PFF ranking system was as followed
- Tier 1: Hall of Fame Coaches (1-3)
- Tier 2: Good Coaches (4-13)
- Tier 3: Average Coaches (14-20)
- Tier 4: Room for Improvement (21-26)
14. NICK SIRIANNI, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (9.0 – 8.0 RECORD WITH AVERAGE ROSTER)
- Offensive Rank:Â 14/26 (+24 points scored a season)
- Defensive Rank:Â 13/26 (+3 points allowed a season)
While Sirianni received deserved praise for how he adjusted to quarterback Jalen Hurts’ limitations throughout the 2021 season, his results were average in his first year as an NFL head coach.

Worth noting, Sirianni was ranked above other well-known coaches such as former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, Sean McDermott, Lovie Smith, Ron Rivera, and Kevin Stefanski.
The hype around the Eagles heading into the 2022 season has been pretty wild but with offseason additions made on both side of the ball and a strong NFL Draft by Howie Roseman, both Sirianni and Jalen Hurts have all the pieces to be successful this year.
Of course, winning dictates everything. We’ll see how things shake out this season for the Eagles’ second year head coach.
