Rumor: Eagles eyeing up early contract extension?

It’s never too early to lock up your own talent.
Heading into 2022, the Eagles have several players that are either on expiring contracts or one-year deals. One of those players is six-year veteran Javon Hargrave.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Hargrave is a “name to watch” for a potential midseason extension.
“The Eagles like to do extensions for key players around the start of the season (Jordan Mailata, Josh Sweat last year), and Hargrave, coming off a Pro Bowl year, seems like a logical candidate.”

With longtime Eagle Fletcher Cox also on a one-year deal, it would make sense for Philadelphia to extend the younger Hargrave before losing two defensive tackles in one offseason. The Eagles traded up for stout rookie Jordan Davis in April’s draft to eventually succeed Cox; keeping him paired with Hargrave could prove beneficial for Davis’ development.
The Eagles restructured Lane Johnson and Isaac Seumalo’s contracts in recent days, freeing up roughly $9.5M in cap space.
