NLCS Game 5: Zack Wheeler, For All Things Holy, looks to send the Philadelphia Phillies to the World Series

Needless to say, The Bailey Falter Experiment did not pay off for the Philadelphia Phillies in last night’s NLCS Game 4 against the against the San Diego Padres.

Falter got tuned up in the first half-inning and just like that, the Phillies were down 4-0 before even stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the first. Luckily, there’s a reason why this team is called The Fightins.
Rhys Hoskins, one of the longest tenured member of the team and also the most criticized, proved to be the “Rhys Lightning” rod for Philly and cut the deficit in half with a 2-run home run. Then, Hoskins did it again in the 5th inning with the game tied 6-6 to put the Phillies 8-6 on the night.
Phillies 1-5 In The Order Last Night
- Kyle Schwarber: 2-4, 3 R, HR, RBI
- Rhys Hoskins: 2-4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI
- JT Realmuto: 1-3, 3 R, HR, RBI
- Bryce Harper: 2-4, R, 2 RBI
- Nick Castellanos: 2-4, R, RBI
This is the type of production Phillies fans have been waiting for all season and it was delivered to us in Game 4 of the NLCS to put us one win away from the World Series.
Incredible.
The Phillies brushed off every punch the Padres threw at them last night and now, are just one win away from the World Series. Today at 2:37PM the Phillies will send their ace in Zack Wheeler to the mound against Yu Darvish.
Zack Wheeler – For All Things Holy
The stage is set. Zack Wheeler gets the nod today at Citizens Bank Park to send the Philadelphia Phillies to the 2022 World Series.
Honestly, it feels weird even typing that.
Wheeler threw seven shutout innings in Game 1 of this series and was backed by two key home runs courtesy of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. The Phillies won that game 2-0.
Opposing Wheeler is the Padres’ Game 1 starter in Yu Darvish and man, it will be interesting to see how he holds up on the sacred grounds of what Nick Castellanos calls “The Jungle” in South Philadelphia.
Darvish pitched well at home in Game 1, striking out seven Phillies hitters with an array of different pitches. To put it simply, he was just out-pitched by Zack Wheeler.

Games like last night do wonders for a baseball team. When you fall behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning and trust your manager and teammates to make a ridiculous comeback at home, that feeling is contagious and tells players that they can battle back from the worst adversity and still win baseball games. Today, I honestly don’t think Darvish will be able to hold up at Citizens Bank Park.
We’re not going back to San Diego. Period. Wheeler, with Jose Alvarado and Seranthony Dominguez behind him, will be ready to pitch today and the bats will come through just like they have over the past few nights.
Let’s Dance. RING IT.
