Rhys Hoskins is set to have surgery today, while the Phillies make sure he’s there in spirit on Opening Day

The Philadelphia Phillies will begin the 2023 baseball season with Darick Hall as their starting first baseman after Rhys Hoskins was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL that he suffered during Spring Training.
Hoskins is out for the season which is obviously a huge blow to the Phillies lineup. The Phillies’ first baseman was entering a big contract year and coming off one of his best seasons at the plate, slashing 30 homers with a .462 slugging percentage and an OPS+ of 122.
After making his debut in 2017, Rhys finally reached the postseason last year and was a major reason the Phillies were able to reach the World Series. Hoskins hit six home runs during the postseason, including the now-iconic “bat slam” shot in the NLCS.
Off the field, Hoskins was leader in the clubhouse and will definitely be missed by his teammates in 2023.
He’s set to have surgery today in Texas while the Phillies will open up the season against the Rangers in Arlington at 4:05PM today. Hoskins will still be with the Phillies in Arlington today spirit, as the ball club set up a locker with his uniform on display.

Phillies give Rhys Hoskins a Locker
Works for me. Hang Rhys Hoskins jerseys everywhere and while you’re at it, tell John Middleton and company to keep him in a Phillies uniform for years to come.
I understand that people have issues with Rhys Hoskins fielding. Everyone does. Obviously.
However, there’s no denying his impact on the locker room and how much his teammates rely on him to keep things moving in the right direction. Here’s what Kyle Schwarber had to say about Hoskins following his season ending injury.

Hoskins was the heart and soul of this Phillies team and if Bryce Harper and company feel strongly about it, which all things considered, they do, then they’ll do everything possible to get Hoskins healthy and a new contract signed after the 2023 season.
Aaron Nola and the Fightins will open up the season today at 4:05PM in Arlington, Texas against Jacob deGrom and the Rangers.
