Victor Wembanyama comments on disappointing NBA Summer League debut as Britney Spears Stans roast him into oblivion on Social Media

Victor Wembanyama made his NBA Summer League debut last night and to say the very least, there’s a lot of work to be done if he wants to live up to the ridiculous hype that surrounded him leading up to his No. 1 overall selection in this year’s NBA Draft.
Wemby finished with just 9 points and 8 rebounds on 2-of-13 shooting from the field as the San Antonio Spurs’ summer league squad beat the Charlotte Hornets 76-68.
Whether you watched Wemby’s debut or happened to stay up to date on social media last night, the overreactions to the 19-year olds performance in an NBA setting were honestly pretty crazy.
Wemby certainly didn’t help himself, thanks to a poor shooting performance throughout the game and getting posterized by Kai Johnson in third quarter.

Wembanyama’s confidence was shot and he was clearly gassed towards the end of last night’s glorified scrimmage.
He addressed the media after the game, calling last night a “special moment” while admitting he has a ton of work to do and a lot to learn before he starts to perform at the level that is expected from him after being drafted No. 1 overall.
Victor Wembanyama Postgame Interview
“Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight…but I’m trying to learn for the next games and the important part is to be ready for the season.”
That’s a pretty fair assessment from a 19-year old French kid that is now transitioning to the NBA. Just give him time, and I’m sure Wemby will be just fine.
Of course, that is also pending on how Wemby deals with Britney Spears super fans, who were ruthless on social media throughout the night following the incident in Las Vegas where a member of the San Antonio Spurs’ security team mistakenly took Spears for a fan and “slapped” her as she tried to approach Victor.

Almost immediately after posting my breakdown of the incident on The Liberty Line, footage was finally released of Spears getting “slapped” by security and let me tell you, it made her look worse than she already did. Yes, I know that everyone else is running with the “Britney tapped Wemby, she didn’t grab him!” bullshit and while that’s true, it still doesn’t tell the whole story in full context.
Spears ran up to Wemby from behind, as told in the initial reports before the security team really just put their hand up to push her back, not realizing it was Britney Spears. The pop icon raised her hand to stop the “slap” before dramatically falling to the ground.

Again, like I said in my initial article above, that’s no way to approach a celebrity or athlete, no matter who you are, and in the “heat of the moment” the security guard reacted to protect Wemby.
Spears unfortunately, dealt with the consequences of her actions. It is what it is.
Police did determine yesterday that no charges would be filed (obviously lol) over the incident in Las Vegas, so hopefully Wemby can put that, the Britney Spears Stans, and his less-than stellar NBA Summer League debut in behind him.
