LSU players Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews made MLB History last night in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft

History was made yesterday in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Pitcher Paul Skenes went No. 1 overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates, while outfielder Dylan Crews went No. 2 overall to the Washington Nationals.
Scenes and Crews both played collegiate baseball at LSU, which marked the first time in MLB history that two players from the same school went No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the draft.
LSU teammates Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews first two selected in 2023 MLB Draft
Last season, Skenes who transferred to LSU from Air Force, went 13-2 with a 1.69 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. He struck out 209 batters in 122.2 innings. At the plate for Air Force, he hit .367 with 24 home runs over two seasons.
Dylan Crews is a 21-year-old outfielder. He hit .426 with a 1.280 OPS last season and has mashed 58 home runs over three years with the LSU Tigers.
History was also made with the next two picks, as all four players that were selected came from the SEC Conference.
Phillies Select Shortstop Aidan Miller No. 27 Overall
The Phillies selected Trinity, Florida’s J.W. Mitchell High School shortstop Aidan Miller with the 27th overall pick.
The 19-year old shortstop committed to play college baseball at the University of Arkansas but is expected to sign with the Phillies, which is pretty convenient given the fact that Trinity, Florida is only a 30-minute drive from Spectrum Field and the Carpenter Complex down in Clearwater.
Miller, who was MLB Pipeline’s No. 13 prospect in the MLB Draft, fell to the Phillies at 27 because of a broken hamate bone in his hand this year that caused him to miss the majority of his senior season.
