Injury Update: Cristian Pache to undergo surgery for protruding screw in elbow, Johan Rojas SZN

Heading into the weekend, Phillies outfielder Cristian Pache was moved to the injured list for what was said to be a “non-serious injury”
Well, it now looks like that is not the case. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Pache will have surgery tomorrow to remove an old screw that is “protruding” from his right elbow. The Phillies expect him to return this season, but as of now, are unsure when that will happen.
Cristian Pache OUT, Phillies expect return later this season
In 49 at-bats this season, Pache was batting .327 with two home runs and eight RBI with a .957 OPS. Right before the All-Star break, Pache was the hero for the Phillies against the Marlins, hitting a two-run home run to deep centerfield, giving the Phillies the lead and ultimately a win against Miami.

Johan Rojas SZN
The Phillies No. 6 prospect, Johan Rojas made his Major League Baseball debut yesterday against the San Diego Padres after being called up from Double A Reading to replace Pache on the Phillies’ roster.
Rojas was fantastic, making a few incredible plays in the outfield while also finding success at the plate.

Note: After Rojas notched his first major league hit, Kyle Schwarber sent him around the bases with a three-run home run to give the Phillies a 4-2 lead over the Padres last night.
With Pache on the IL, it looks like Rojas will get even more playing time over the final few months of the regular season. If yesterday was any type of indicator of what we can expect, then the Phillies have themselves one hell of a baseball player.
With two wins yesterday, the Phillies improved to 50-42 on the season. They are 2 games behind the second place Miami Marlins in the NL East Standings, still trailing the first place Braves by 11.5 games.
In the NL Wild Card, the Phillies are still on the outside looking in, trailing the San Francisco Giants by 1 game for the final Wild Card spot.
The Phillies will send Zack Wheeler to the mound today at 1:05PM looking to take 3 of 4 against San Diego and earn a series win.
