Taijuan Walker guides the Phillies past the Fish in 4-2 victory to close out a bizarre July month of baseball

The Philadelphia Phillies bounced back last night after a rough weekend series in Pittsburgh with a 4-2 win against the Miami Marlins.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Phillies fell behind 2-0 after Jorge Solar hit a moon shot to deep left field. From there, as we have seen time and time again this season, Walker settled in and delivered 6.2 strong innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
The Phillies tied things up in the top of the fourth inning thanks to Johan Rojas roping a double down the left field line, scoring Trea Turner and Brandon Marsh.
Johan Rojas 2-RBI Double
Bryson Stott gave the Phillies the lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Kyle Schwarber. Alec Bohm then followed with a single to right to score Rojas, giving the Phillies a two-run lead.
Alec Bohm Insurance Run
Bohm and Stott have been the cornerstones of the Phillies’ lineup. Bohm specifically is pretty much the only player that can drive in runners in scoring position and after delivering last night in the top of the eighth to give the Phillies an insurance run, is now batting .358 with RISP while on pace for a season-high 101 RBIs.
Last night, Bohm was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, two walks, and a stolen base. If Rob Thomson was smart, he would keep Bohm in the 2-hole for the remainder of the season. Finally, there’s production that we have failed to see all season from guys like Trea Turner, JT Realmuto, and Nick Castellanos.
Phillies Hunt for Red October
This season has been pretty bizarre for the Philadelphia Phillies. They definitely haven’t put everything together as team with postseason aspirations on August 1st. However, they still hold the second-best record in Major League Baseball since June 2nd at 32-17 (.653) while winning just five out of their last 12 games.
With last night’s win, they find themselves back in a NL Wild Card spot with a half-game advantage on Arizona, Miami, and Milwaukee. The Cubs sit 3.5 games out after winning eight of 10 and the Padres are lingering 5 games out of a postseason position.

MLB Trade Deadline: Today at 6PM
The Phillies are still rumored to be targeting pitched Eduardo Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers and just last night, Jon Morosi from MLB Network mentioned that Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernández has been gaining trade interested ahead of today’s 6PM deadline. The Phillies were mentioned as one of three teams interested.
