Phillies, Rob Thomson provide injury update on Bryce Harper after an early exit from tonight’s game vs the Nationals

Bryce Harper left tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals in the top of the fifth inning with what the team eventually diagnosed as mid-back spasms.
It doesn’t seem like the Phillies really know when the injury actually happened.
In the top of the third inning on a pick-off attempt from Aaron Nola. Harper stood up and appeared to stretch his back. In the fourth inning, a grounder by Dominic Smith hit the first base bag as Harper went attempted to field it, the ball popped up and hit him in the chest.

Rob Thomson spoke after the game, stating that the trainers told him Harper’s back stiffened up between innings but that was pretty much the only update he received. He told reporters that Harper will be listed as “day to day” with mid-back spasms and that he “wasn’t sure how it happened.”

Hopefully this was mostly just a precautionary measure by the Phillies and Harper and he can avoid missing serious time.
On the season, Harper is batting .293 with an .809 OPS. He has seven home runs and 38 RBI. Over his last 30 games, Harper is slashing .279/.352/.459 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI.
The Phillies won 3 of 4 against the Nationals and will host the Minnesota Twins this weekend at Citizens Bank Park.
