Disaster: Former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance traded to Dallas Cowboys for fourth round draft pick

On Friday night, the San Francisco 49ers sent their former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth round draft pick.

I’m not so sure about a “fresh start” on this one, Schefty.
There’s nothing fresh or exciting about playing football for the Dallas Cowboys. I will say, getting playing time on an NFL team that has Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback shouldn’t be that difficult, so maybe there is hope for Lance in Dallas.
My guess is probably not. Trey Lance wasn’t able to beat out Brock Purdy or Sam Darnold in San Francisco, so it’s likely he’ll be QB3 in Dallas behind Prescott and Cooper Rush.
The Trey Lance pick turned out to be a complete disaster for the San Francisco 49ers.
In a span of a year, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft went from QB1 in San Francisco to QB3 behind Brock Purdy and journeyman Sam Darnold.
The 49ers traded into the Top 3 of the NFL Draft back in 2021 in order to draft Trey Lance and gave up a lot to make it happen.
Now, just a few years removed from being a Top 3 pick, the 49ers got a fourth round draft pick in return and Lance is heading to the Dallas Cowboys.
Gross.
It’s situations like these that should make Philadelphia Eagles fans grateful for Howie Roseman.
