Roster Moves: Phillies Activate Ranger Suarez and Cristian Pache as rosters expand to 28 in September

Ahead of last night’s game in Milwaukee, the Phillies activated outfielder Cristian Pache and Ranger Suarez from the injured list.
Roster Moves: Phillies Activate Ranger Suarez and Cristian Pache
With the September roster expansion to 28 players, the Phillies did not have to make any corresponding moves to clear up spots on the MLB level.
Pache haș dealt with injuries all season but in his limited time playing, he’s been productive. Mainly valued for his glove in the outfield, in 53 plate appearances this season, Pache has slashed .327/.365/.592 with seven doubles, two home runs, and eight RBI.

On the season, Ranger Suarez is 2-6 with a 3.88 ERA. His last start was on August 13th, where he gave up six hits and two earned runs over 6+ innings of work while striking out eight and walking three.
Over his last seven starts, Suarez has pitched 41 innings, posting a 0-3 record with a 4.17 ERA. He struck out 34 and walked 17 during that span.
Phillies Drop Game 1 in Milwaukee
With the Phillies down 3-1 in the top of the eighth inning last night, JT Realmuto and Brandon Marsh both reached base to put two runners on with no outs. Jake Cave then promptly struck out and Schwarber flied out, bringing Trea Turner to the plate with 2-outs.
Turner crushed a go-ahead 3-run home run to give the Phillies a 4-3 lead.

Jose Alvarado entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, relieving Gregory Soto who pitched a hitless seventh while striking out two.
That’s where things started to get real messy last night in Milwaukee. Alvarado allowed two hits and two walks before getting pulled from the game in favor of Jeff Hoffman.
Almost out of the jam, Alec Bohm let a routine grounder slip under his glove at third base and just like that the Brewers plated four runs in the inning to take a 7-5 lead into the ninth.

Phillies Hunt for Red October
With last night’s loss, the Phillies now hold a 2.5 game lead over the Chicago Cubs for the top NL Wild Card spot. They are 4.5 games ahead of both the Giants and D-Backs.

The Phillies look to bounce back tonight with Aaron Nola (12-8, 4.30 ERA) on the mound against Colin Rea (5-5, 5.11 ERA).
