Aaron Nola disaster-class dooms Phillies in 7-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their third straight game last night, falling to the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 after Aaron Nola’s worst start of the 2023 season.
Nola was tagged for a season-high seven earned runs last night. He pitched just 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out just five.
After the Phillies won four straight starts from Aaron Nola, the Brewers handed him one last night, dropping him to 12-9 on the season.
Luckily, the Phillies keep hitting home runs. The game started with Kyle Schwarber hitting his second straight leadoff home run to put the Phillies up 1-0.Â
Kyle Schwarber Leadoff Home Run
Note: Over his last 15 games, Schwarber is batting .273 with 9 home runs, 15 RBI, and 15 walks which is much better than what his .191 season average suggests. Good job Kyle. The battle for a .200 batting average is within reach.Â
Trea Turner Home Run – 5th Straight Game
Trea Turner then hit a solo home run in the second inning, marking his fifth straight game where he’s homered.Â
Turner also stole a base last night, marking a perfect 25-for-25 in swiping backs in 2023.
Last three MLB players to begin a season 25-for-25 in steals:
- 2023: Trea Turner 25-for-25
- 2009: Carl Crawford 30-for-30
- 2008: Jimmy Rollins 25-for-25
JT Realmuto Hits Career Home Run No. 150
Realmuto Resurgence: Not a secret to anyone that JT Realmuto got off to a terribly slow start this season but over his last 30 games, he’s batting .279 with four home runs, 13 RBI, and nine walks. That’s huge for the Phillies as we enter the final month of the regular season.Â
After a quick first inning, Nola labored the rest of the way. In the second inning, four of the first six batters got hits and the Brewers put three runs off the board. He then allowed four more runs in the fifth inning, including a 2-run home run from Carlos Santana.
Outside of Schwarber, Turner, and Realmuto, the only other player who had a hit last night was Alec Bohm.
- Kyle Schwarber: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, BB, R, K
- Trea Turner: 2-5, HR, RBI, 2 R, 2 K
- JT Realmuto: 2-4, HR, RBI, 2 R, K
Not great.Â
Like I said yesterday, losing baseball games obviously sucks but when you really dive in to the three straight losses by the Phillies, I honestly don’t care that much. The Phillies are hitting. When they are behind in games, they are able to mount comebacks. While Aaron Nola sucked last night, they managed to battle back, just like they did against the Angels on Wednesday and the Brewers on Friday night.
Phillies Hunt for Red October
Even while losing three straight games, the Phillies remain 2.5 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the top NL Wild Card spot. They are 4.5 games clear of the D-Backs, Giants, and Reds.Â

Ranger Suarez (2-6, 3.88 ERA) is back from the injured list and will get the start today against Wade Miley (7-3, 3.17 ERA) as the Phillies look to avoid getting swept in Milwaukee.Â
