The Philadelphia Phillies wrapped up their 6-game road trip taking 2 of 3 games from the San Diego Padres, winning today’s rubber match 5-1. 

Zack Wheeler was on the mound for The Fightins and was in dominant form, tossing six innings of one-hit baseball, walking one and striking out seven. 

Kyle Schwarber got the Phillies on the board in the top of the first inning with his record-setting 10th leadoff home run of the season.

Schwarber passed Jimmy Rollins’ previous franchise record of nine leadoff home runs back in 2007.

To say the Phillies six game road trip was a struggle for Bryce Harper would be an understatement. Up until today’s game, Harper hadn’t notched a hit since mashing his 300th career home run at Citizens Bank Park on August 30th.

Harper was 0-20 entering the fourth inning of today’s game, the longest hitless streak of his career. Finally, he snapped out of it, roping a two-out double to right-center field that scored two runs, guiding the Phillies to a 5-1 victory over the San Diego Padres, taking 2 of 3 out West with a travel day tomorrow.

Phillies Hunt for Red October

The Phillies currently hold a 2.5 game lead over the Chicago Cubs and sit 5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds in third place. They are 5.5 games over the Marlins and D-Backs, while the Giants continue to fall further away from the pack.
