Phillies Hunt for Red October
The Phillies wrapped up a six-game road trip losing 2 of 3 in Milwaukee before winning 2 of 3 in San Diego. Now 77-62 on the season, the Phillies remain in the No. 1 spot in the NL Wild Card with a two-game advantage over the Chicago Cubs and a five game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the third and final spot for the postseason.Â

The Miami Marlins are 72-68 on the season and winners of seven out of their last 10 games. They are a half-game out of a Wild Card spot, tied with the Cincinnati Reds on the outside looking in. The San Francisco Giants, losers of six straight games, are now 2.5 games out of the playoffs.
Games Remaining:Â vs. MIA (3), vs. ATL (4), at STL (3), at ATL (3), vs. NYM (4), vs. PIT (3), at NYM (3)
Eury Perez vs Cristopher Sanchez
Eury Perez takes the mound for the Marlins, looking to rebound after a shaky start against the Nationals in his last outing. Perez lasted just 4.2 innings and coughed up three runs on three home runs but managed to escape with a no decision.
Still, the Marlins’ rookie pitcher has been solid during his time in the majors this season. He has a 2.86 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP, posting a 5-4 record over 78.2 innings this season. Tonight will be his first ever start against the Phillies.
Cristopher Sanchez gets the nod for the Phillies and like Perez, struggled in his last start, lasting just 4.2 innings against the Angels. Sanchez has been solid in the back-half of the rotation this season, allowing two or fewer runs in three of his last four starts. On the year, he’s posted a 2-3 record with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP over 75 innings of work.
Trea Turner Returns from Paternity Leave
Trea Turner will look to pick up where he left off after missing the last two games on the paternity list. Turner will carry a 15-game hitting streak into tonight’s series opener against the Marlins.
Turner has hit a home run SEVEN TIMES over the past seven games (6 out of the last 7) while batting .406 with 16 RBI during that span.Â
Along with Turner, JT Realmuto has finally come alive this season and is now batting .294 with 6 home runs and 14 RBI over his last 30 games.Â
JT Realmuto HR vs Padres
There are only 23 games left in the regular season and the Marlins are playing good baseball again while fighting for a spot in the postseason. All that is fine and dandy, however the Phillies are just too good of a baseball team right now to be losing to a rookie pitcher at home on a Friday night.
Incredible analysis, I know. It’s true though. Lots of home runs tonight. Phillies roll. Ring it.
