JT Realmuto Home Run Mets

JT Realmuto’s bizarre home/away splits, Bohmer walks it off, Phillies extend Wild Card lead to 4 games

JT Realmuto crushed a 3-run home run as Alec Bohm walked it off for the Phillies in the bottom of the 10th inning against the New York Mets in South Philly last night, winning 5-4.

[Red] October is Coming…

The Phillies hold a 4-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks for the No. 1 spot in the National League Wild Card with just 8-games remaining in the 2023 regular season.

Phillies NL Wild Card

Games Remaining: (8): vs. NYM (2), vs. PIT (3), at NYM (3)

Like I said earlier this week, the Phillies hold tiebreakers over both the D-Backs and the Cubs, which sets themselves up nicely entering the final week of action before the postseason.

The Fightins won their third straight game last night at Citizens Bank Park, beating the New York Mets 5-4 thanks to Alec Bohm, who ended the game in walk off fashion against Mets reliever Adam Ottavino in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Alec Bohm Walk Off

Taijuan Walker was on the mound last night and finally, had a strong outing after a string of rough ones over the past month. Walker tossed six innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and a walk while striking out three.

The Phillies fell behind 2-0 in the ball game before JT Realmuto stepped up to the plate and CRUSHED a 3-run home run to give the Phils a 3-2 lead.

JT Realmuto Go Ahead 3-Run Home Run

Yes, JT Realmuto, at Citizens Bank Park, crushed a 3-run home run.

I know we haven’t gotten to say that much this season, right?

At home, Realmuto has just six home runs and 30 RBI, batting .194 with a .576 OPS. On the road, he turns into the “Best Catcher in Baseball” at the plate, batting .301 with a .944 OPS and 14 homers. Realmuto returning to Red October form at The Bank over the next month would be a massive lift to the Phillies lineup that has certainly missed his heroics in South Philly this season.

Kyle Schwarber put the Phillies up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI single that scored Johan Rojas. Schwarbie’s RBI single made him just the 13th MLB player since 1920 with a 120 walk, 100 run, 100 RBI, 45 HR season.

Pretty wild, considering he’s only batting .198 on the season.

Of course, last night, like most nights, was never going to be that easy for the Phillies.

Gregory Soto got roughed up in just 0.2 innings of work, allowing two hits and a run on a Francisco Lindor solo shot to left center. With the Mets down one in the top of the ninth, Craig Kimbrel then coughed up another solo home run to Brett Baty, tying the game 4-4 and sending it into extra innings.

Seranthony Dominguez worked himself in and out of trouble in the top of the 10th, striking out known-dorkface Pete Alonso with the bases loaded on a nasty slider.

That set the stage for Alec Bohm to deliver a walk-off in the bottom half of the 10th, and put the Phillies even closer to clinching the top spot in the NL Wild Card with just 8-games left in the 2023 regular season.

The Phillies magic number to win any Wild Card is 3. Magic number to win top Wild Card is 4.
