Kobie Turner Jalen Carter Spiked INT

WATCH: Rams’ Kobie Turner does his best Jalen Carter impression, nearly picks off spike from 49ers’ Sam Darnold

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner did his best Jalen Carter impression against the San Francisco 49ers, attempting to intercept a spiked football from quarterback Sam Darnold.

Back when the Philadelphia Eagles were a good football team, Jalen Carter nearly pulled off the impossible, ending the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs on a spiked ball interception from Patrick Mahomes.

The play was impressive and following the Eagles’ win on the road against the Chiefs, Carter spoke with reporters, saying he saw the play on the internet and was eager to attempt it in a live-game situation.

Jalen Carter: ‘I saw it on the internet’

I was looking around the internet and it appears the video Carter was referencing was from a 2021 Colorado high school football game. The video that not only shows a player attempting to intercept a spiked ball, but pulling off the move.

Spike Intercepted to Save the Game

In a 2021 Colorado high school game, Castle View linebacker Brody Ashworth intercepted the spike attempt by Mountain Vista freshman quarterback Austyn Modrzewski (now a highly rated recruit). The play saved the game for Castle View, as Mountain Vista was spiking the ball to stop the clock and set up a potential game-winning field goal with 19 seconds left.

Yesterday as Carson Wentz and the Rams took down the 49ers, Kobie Turner attempted to do the same as Carter and almost pulled it off. It’s only a matter of time before a defensive lineman actually pulls off the spiked ball interception in an NFL game.
