ESPN analyst JJ Redick set to interview for Charlotte Hornets vacant head coaching position

According to reports, the Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Redick for their vacant head coaching position.

JJ Redick to interview for Charlotte Hornets head coaching position

Earlier this month, Steve Clifford announced he was stepping down as head coach at the end of the season to take a front office role with the Hornets. Charlotte wrapped up last season with a 21-61 record in the Eastern Conference – so a new head coach and overall new direction for the team was obviously needed.

Over the last few seasons, it’s been pretty obvious that Redick was thinking about getting into coaching. He was in the running for the Toronto Raptors job last season, and even here in Philly, he was a candidate to land the vacant head coach position before the Sixers ultimately hired Nick Nurse.

Now 39-years old, Redick played for six NBA teams between 2006 and 2021 – spending the majority of his time with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

He retired from the NBA after the 2021 season and has continued to grow his media presence. Redick was promoted to ESPN’s lead broadcast team alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke last February while hosting “The Old Man and the Three” podcast. He also recently teamed up with LeBron James to co-host the “Mind the Game” podcast.

Redick joins a growing list of candidates for the Hornets’ head coaching position this offseason, including former Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jordan Ott and Houston Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey, among others. [SI]
