Jack’s Top 10 Eagles Uniforms

Hey guys, back again with the 2nd edition of the top 10 uniform rankings. Last I did the Philadelphia Flyers which I will link here. I put polls on Instagram and Twitter and asked you guys what you wanted for the next article and the Eagles won in a landslide so that’s what we got today. The Eagles have a history of great uniforms and some more unique looks than the Flyers list so the different designs will be present in this. Going from Kelly Green to Midnight Green and so many different looks in between this are sure to be a great one. So let’s get into the top 10 Philadelphia Eagle Uniforms
10: 1969-1973 Home
Starting off our list is a personal favorite for me and that is for one reason, white helmets. This is probably my favorite helmet in Eagles’ history. I just love the look of the kelly green on white and how it really makes it pop. This is not a well-known jersey and that adds a bit to it because I’m a big fan of not well-known jerseys and designs. But outside of that the reason this isn’t higher is the jersey and pants are not really anything great. While I enjoy the color there are more on the list that does a great job of adding more to this jersey design, but that white helmet will forever be iconic to me.
9: Current Away (1999-Present Day)

The midnight green look has divided the fan base in people that really enjoy it and those who miss the days of the kelly green. I will say, over time this look has grown on me and I think the best rendition of it has been under the current Nike template. Having just won the super bowl in this look I don’t think it will be leaving anytime soon so expect midnight green to be the primary as time goes on. With this look, I really like the black accents on the collar and numbers and feel that does a really good job of making it pop. Also, the number font is unique and not boring and definitely different from many others in the NFL. I’ll talk more about midnight green when we get to the home look but I don’t think it is as bad as everyone thinks.
8: 1942-1949 Home
A look not commonly known among many Eagles fans but this is probably the most iconic look for the birds in their early history. Being the look they wore during their early success in the 1940s, winning 2 NFL championships in it, that is not the only reason I chose this way throwback design. It has a couple of unique things to it that help it pop out. The first is kelly green pants. Never really worn and while I don’t understand why later teams did not choose this look, it works really well in this design. Another interesting piece to this is the white shoulder border reminiscent of the later Flyers designs that did the exact same thing, which I think works really well for both. Lastly the leather helmet, probably the most iconic thing about football in this decade and in the past is the leather helmet. Sporting a green and gray design, with no wing or anything it still works well and the grey is a nice compliment to the green and white throughout the jersey.
7: Current Home (1999- Present Day)
Like I mentioned above, the midnight green is a major argument amongst Eagles fans. They have their supporters and enemies. I feel that I stand in the middle of the battlefield on that issue. Initially, when they first changed it was an immediate downgrade, the kelly green look of the ’90s is amazing and what was introduced in 1996 was a half-finished product. After testing a couple different tweaks over a few years they got the look they wanted and it has been this way for the last 21 years. The different jersey styles and brands have messed with the look a bit, sometimes being glossy and sometimes looking darker than usual. Under the modern Nike template, I feel it is the best midnight green look the Eagles have. Made forever immortal in Super Bowl 52, this look isn’t going anywhere for a while. The helmet I think is the one thing even kelly green fans would say is the best part, adding some detail into the forever winged helmet definitely helped it look even better. The jersey itself looks great with the black collar and outline on the white font. Despite the hate, this is still one of the better looks in Eagles’ history in my opinion.
6: 1985-1995 Away
The kelly green looks of the ’80s and ’90s are some of the best looks ever in football and while this is such a great design I think the home is much better and there are a few things that don’t take this as good as it should. I will say the helmet and jersey are amazing. Like the helmet in my #10 spot, I think Kelly green on white is just such a great look and the way it plays off here is beautiful and makes it pop really well. Also, the helmet is the perfected look of the kelly green-winged for the time and is such a different design and forever the helmet talked about when you discuss kelly green and the Eagles. The only dislike I have about this is the pants. The grey pants really mess the rest of the uniform up and while I don’t mind grey it plays better as a minor accent than the main piece. I would have loved to see the kelly green pants I talked about from the ’40s instead. If that was the case these would be much higher on the list but that is what holds them back.
5: 1965-1968 Home
While many people love the 1960 design, I am not a big fan of it I see it as just too plain. This look from 1968 is another not well known one but it improves upon the look from 1960. Adding white stripes along the sides of the jersey makes it different and adds a bit more flavor to it in my opinion. This also keeps the same helmet from 1960 intact and the color scheme. This look was worn for only a few years and like #10 is not known well by fans at all. I think the white compliments the kelly green well and helps give an interesting throwback idea for the Eagles.
4: 1974-1984 Away
Probably my favorite overall set in Eagles history, by that I mean home and away. This look helped make it iconic through a few things. The first is the Eagles’ first SuperBowl appearance in 1980 that helped immortalize the look and the crew led by Ron Jaworski. The 2nd thing that has helped is the hit movie Invincible about Vince Papale and this Eagles era. Now for the look itself. I think the one thing that draws me in the most is the sleeves. The bulky sleeve stripes add some new creativeness to the look and help make it pop more. Also, the first appearance of the new kelly green helmet that would stay in place for the next 20 years is done so well. Lastly, the green number and the mesh style just work together so well. Overall this is my favorite away jersey in the Eagles history and part of my favorite set.
3: 1974-1984 Home
Like I just mentioned above, this home and away set is my favorite in Eagles’ history and is just so well done. The big sleeve stripes again work well here adding a grey accent to the look and adding some more flavor to the uniform. Also, the TV numbers on the shoulders add another new look to the jersey. The grey pants I feel work here since the green is darker than the 90’s look and the stripes on the side are perfect. Overall everything about this design is so well executed and I don’t think that it gets the respect that it deserves.
2: Current All-Black (2014-Present Day)

Despite all the fighting about the midnight green look, every fan will agree that the all-black look is the best thing to come out of it and the best jersey in recent memory. Introducing a whole new color as the primary color for the jersey has played off really well. A common theme for these is the best look is their current one. I think the black jersey is done best when it’s all black everything when it was introduced as part of the color rush theme and it has stuck ever since. There is just a swagger that is brought out when this is worn and is saved for special occasions when it is needed. The green helmet serves as a good compliment to this look and it has such an intimidating feel to it. I think this is the one jersey every fan can agree it’s done very well.
1: Kelly Green Home (1985-1995)
You probably saw this one coming, the look of the Buddy Ryan Eagles this is just so well done. Like you have seen I am a sucker for kelly green and this look perfected everything about it. First off the sleeve logo is beautiful and the best Eagles logo in history. The numbers outlined in black blend so well with the jersey. The helmet I have mentioned is incredible and the only thing is it could use a bit more detail but that does not take much from it. Overall, this look is just so beautiful and I would pay a lot of money to see this return as a throwback. Damn you one shell rule.
