Phillies bounce back, beat Marlins 7-1

After a disappointing Opening Night, the Phillies bounced back earlier this afternoon thanks to a dominant Zack Wheeler and home runs from JT Realmuto, Didi Gregorious and Phil Gosselin.

The Phillies won 7-1 against the Marlins and Wheeler absolutely dominated, allowing five hits, one run and two walks in seven innings. He struck out four. He induced four inning-ending double plays. He threw only 87 pitches.
Phil Gosselin enjoyed the first multihomer game of his career, hitting a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth and a solo homer in the eighth. Gosselin, who batted eighth as the designated hitter, finished Summer Camp on a tear, becoming the final player to make the 30-man roster. He carried his torrid hitting into the season.

JT Realmuto broke the game open with a 3-run home run to center field.

After the game, more questions about his possible contract extension were the topic of conversation. JT had this to day.
“To be honest, I’m focused on the season at this point,” Realmuto said. “There’s no telling what’s going to happen. Nothing has happened thus far. All I can do is go out and focus on the season and then try to make this team as good as I can and help this team win ballgames.”
Outside CBP, fans continued to show support in signing JT. According to TLL’s The Misery Report, that might not be the best idea. But for now, we’re with JT – let’s just focus on the season.

Small ball is still a concept that the Phillies have yet to really adapt to their batting order. It’s tough to rely solely on the long ball, but hey, we’ll take it.
The Phillies are back tomorrow to face the Marlins at 1:05pm.
