Phillies Split Double Header Against the Yankees

The Phillies had two games today in South Philadelphia and split the double header against the Yankees.
Game One:
Zach Wheeler was first on the mound in the 4:05pm game. The game started out painful as always. The Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Wheeler in the first two innings before the Phillies got on the board with a Bryce Harper bomb.

Once Harper got the Phillies back into the game, the flood gates finally opened for the Phillies as they went on to score 11 runs. Realmuto went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored, while Wheeler allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings in an 11-7 victory.

Andrew McCutchen continued to struggle at the plate while Rhys Hoskins went 1-5 with a nice RBI single in the 6th inning. Hoskins, Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Scott Kingery and Didi Gregorius drove in runs to record six runs in the 6th to extend the lead to 11-3 heading into the 7th. Then of course, the bullpen couldn’t let us enjoy beating the crap out of the Yankees.
Austin Davis entered the game and let up 4 runs in .1 innings. Trevor Kelly then entered the game and pitched .1 innings letting up two hits before Hector Neris closed it out for the win.
Game Two:
Game two had Phillies ace Aaron Nola on the mound. Nola heated up as the bats disappeared. He struck out eight batters through four innings: five swinging, four on curveballs, four on fastballs. Twelve swings and misses overall.

The bullpen let the Phillies down yet again. Nola exited the game after 6.0 innings pitched and tying a career high with 12 strikeouts. It was the third time he’s done that in his career.
With the game tied 1-1 in the 7th, in came Tommy Hunter who immediately let up 2 runs on 4 hits and gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Tommy Hunter stinks and can’t pitch his way out of a life or death situation. I’m sorry but that guy has never had a second pitch.
Anyways, Adam Morgan came in to bail Tommy Hunter out and escaped the inning after a double-play ball found it’s way to Did Gregorious who made a stellar play.
Heading into the bottom of the 7th, the Phillies only had 3 hits thanks to Adam Haseley, Neil Walker, and Andrew Knapp. Yes. Seriously.
Bad second game for the Phillies. Aaron Nola literally pitched 6 of 7 innings striking out 12 and we somehow lost the second game 3-1. Honestly, there’s no reason why he should have come out of the game in the first place. The Phillies can’t lose that type of outing from their ace. It simply cannot happen if you want to contend.
Other Notes:
Citizens Bank Park was filled with cardboard cut outs. There were even some in the outfield including Ryan Howard in the upper deck.
Lots of cardboard cutouts at CBP, but only five in outfield stands: two Phil Gosselin, two Didi Gregorius, one Bryce Harper. Locations of their home runs this year. Plus, Ryan Howard (circled) in the third deck. pic.twitter.com/fzbcM7CnmL

Pretty tight. Super weird but what can ya do. I’ll watch this guy dance around with cardboard people all night long.
The game is still tied.

The Phillies have a quick turnaround and are back tomorrow against the Yankees. This bullpen will kill me before the end of summer. I promise you.
Ring that bell, baby.
