Phillies Avoid Sweep, Beat Braves 5-4

In a shocking change of events, the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen actually pitched well last night and the Phillies escaped Atlanta with a 5-4 win, avoiding the sweep and dropping five straight games.
Alec Bohm got the Phillies moving in the top of the 2nd inning with his first major league home run. It was a shot to deep center and splashed down in the water, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

The following inning, Rhys Hoskins came to the plate and crushed a 2-run home run. Hoskins who got off to a terribly slow start, has now found light at the plate, knocking in 8 RBI’s over the last 9 games.

It wasn’t all pretty at the plate for the Phillies, who had the bases loaded with no outs in the 4th and only managed to plate one run. Again in the 5th, they had the bases loaded with two outs and did not score a run.
Eflin was productive on the mound pitching 5.1 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, and 6 strikeouts. The bullpen, however, pitched extremely well. Newcomer Heath Hembree pitched 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. Tommy Hunter struck out 2 in an inning’s work.
That brought us to the 9th, where we all thought the nightmare would continue as Brandon Workman barely survived on the mound. Freddie Freeman roped one to to left center, Quinn hit the cut-off man Didi, and he fired to the plate where Knapp was there to tag out Swanson and end the game.
