Contract Talks with Zach Ertz Heating Up

Ian Rappaport Reporting:
Speaking of extensions: The #Eagles reengaged on contract talks with TE Zach Ertz, which makes sense after 2 stars at the position got paid. Ertz’s stats put him on a historic pace, with more yards (5,743 vs 5,647) and catches (525 vs 468) than HOFer Tony Gonzalez thru 7 seasons.

After George Kittle and Travis Kelce reset the NFL’s tight end market, the Eagles have sparked up contract talks with Zach Ertz. This makes perfect sense, given the fact that the top 3 tight ends in the NFL are Kittle, Kelce and Ertz.
Ertz has two years left on his five-year deal with the Eagles, which currently pays him $8.5 million per year. I wouldn’t expect Ertz to get a $14 or $15 million dollar contract but the Eagles should make him an offer around $12 million. Both tight ends on the Eagles, Ertz and Goedert, both have contracts expiring at the end of 2021.
Ertz, the Eagles’ 2nd-round pick in 2013, needs 65 catches to pass Harold Carmichael (589) and break the franchise record for career receptions.
In 2018, Ertz set an NFL record for tight ends with 116 receptions. Ertz has caught at least 70 passes in five straight seasons. The only tight ends with longer streaks are Tony Gonzalez (11) and Jason Witten (7).
