Phillies beat Nationals 8-3 with 12 hits and solid pitching

JT Realmuto is playing the best baseball of his career and he is, without a doubt a doubt the best catcher in baseball.

Last night, Realmuto belted a a 1-1 fastball off off Nationals’ pitcher Erick Fedde which ended up out of the park after Adam Eaton misjudged his jump and the ball hit the padding on top of the fence, backspinning over for a 3-run home run and a three run lead for the Phillies.

Realmuto is batting .289 with three doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBI’s and a .962 OPS. The soon-to-be free agent has been fantastic and should definitely help him on the open market if the Phillies fail to lock him up before the end of the season.

Jake Arrieta allowed one run in five innings. He only threw 54 pitches on the night and likely would have stayed in the game longer if it weren’t for a slight rain delay. Arrieta desperately needed a good outing after allowing 8 runs in 9 innings in his previous two starts.

Roman Quinn scored an insurance run in the 7th. Alec Bohm and Jean Segura knocked in three more runs, and the bullpen took care of the rest.

I repeat: The Bullpen Took Care Of The Rest. For someone who has never said a bad word about the bullpen, it was great to see them finally shut down a team, secure a win, and silence all the haters.

Heath Hembree, Tommy Hunter, Hector Neris, Adam Morgan, and Blake Parker allowed one earned run. The Phillies won 8-3.

Aaron Nola will look to bounce back tonight after a terrible start in Atlanta where he only pitched 2 2/3 innings – the shortest start of his career. Patrick Corbin is on the mound for the Nationals. He is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA on the season. Last year, Corbin went 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts against the Phillies.
