Elton Brand’s press conference provides a glimmer of hope

Elton Brand held his end of season media conference on Tuesday morning to discuss the future of this team. Brand discussed topics from Horford to a new front office and even Joel and Ben. With a lot of uncertainty and lack of hope from fans on Twitter, it would seem like nothing is going to change. However, if you’re paying attention, there does appear to be major changes coming over the next few weeks.
Of course, when Elton Brand or anyone from the front office speaks to the media, they’re going to say the right things. When a higher executive is asked about certain moves they are going to make, more often than not they will hold their cards close to their chest. This is purely a negotiation tactic to not lose any leverage in what you are planning to do.
#Sixers GM Elton Brand: 'Al Horford can fit on an NBA-caliber championship team. Absolutely.'

When you discuss a player like Horford who is on the hot-seat, usually the public never gets the answer they want straight up. Fans expect Brand to come out and say “We don’t want Horford here he’s gone”. That isn’t how moving a player works. Any value you’d be working to receive on that player would be thrown out the window.
Teams would realize they have the upper hand and your chances of trading for one Buddy Hield would fall. Also, if a trade falls through and you have to stick with him that creates an unhealthy relationship between the two parties. I fully expect Horford will be moving on so I wouldn’t take much from this quote.
When asked on Embiid and Simmons Brand said he is not looking to trade either he is looking to "compliment them better."

That quote above should tell you everything you need to know about where Horford lies with the team.
On the talks of Joel and Ben, this is a statement Brand can make and should be a relief for many fans. Can Cleveland go away with their shitty offer of the 5th pick and Sexton? Joel and Ben being kept together have now been confirmed by several parties and the organization will continue to do the right thing in trying to make this star duo work. This should be the biggest sigh of relief from everything Brand said as many for some reason wanted to separate these two.
The last major thing that has drawn a lot of controversy, but really shouldn’t is Elton’s plans for the rest of his Front Office group. Again, why do people expect Brand to come out and say everyone is fired? This is a business at the end of the day and those are private conversations. Unless that person did something illegal that isn’t a matter you present to the public first.
Brand asked specifically if Alex Rucker will be coming back, declines to name any one person he’s looking at in front office: “I’m doing a thorough assessment of our front office…our group has to get stronger and we know that.”

The Colangelo leftovers removal has been a hot topic amongst fans the past few days and to be quite honest, I didn’t expect to see them be removed. I am very impressed by Elton and Harris for realizing their mistakes and trying to fix the group. Now, this quote doesn’t say they’re staying but you have to pay attention to the other quotes from Brand.
Second time on the call Brand has mentioned getting “more basketball minds in here”

Just like before, that quote should tell you everything you need to know. But that isn’t the only one that seems to shadow an upcoming change.
Brand on whether Scott O’Neill will be involved in the coaching search. “To be clear and frank, we feel the collaboration days didn’t work too well. I will be leading this search.”

These quotes along with a few others continue to show Brand is taking over and will be the main man in that room. Elton is removing the power from these guys left over from the regime that ruined the process and it couldn’t be any more clear as day. The Sixers have shown that they want to make this right and so far have seemed to be looking at every issue we have seen and making fixes towards bettering this team.
