Girardi gets 1,000th win, Phillies beat Nationals 3-2

Joe Girardi needed one more win to reach 1,000 career wins in Major League Baseball. Last night, he had his ace Aaron Nola on the mound against the Nationals as the Phillies looked to win three straight.

Nola delivered with a perfect seventh inning to preserve a one-run lead in a 3-2 victory over the Nationals. The Skipper got his 1,000th victory in his managerial career. Girardi became the 16th-fastest manager in baseball history to reach 1,000 victories, reaching the milestone in his 1,808th game. Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto handed Girardi the ball from the game’s final out.

The Phillies got Girardi a nice bottle of champagne with “1,000 wins” on the label. Bryce Harper made a toast. Great to see Aaron Nola bounce back after his shortest start of his career against the Braves last Friday. He allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto in the second and then back-to-back walks to start the fourth inning, which led to an early 2-1 lead for the Nationals. From there, he retired 9 of 11 batters to finish the 6th inning. He finished throwing 113 pitches which is the most that any Phillies pitcher has thrown this year. Rhys Hoskins stayed hot and homered in the third inning, which was the Phillies only run until the 7th inning.

Hello Rhys Hoskins doubters. It’s me again. Rhys Hoskins has reached base at least once in 24 of 35 games this season. The Phillies are 6-1 this season when Rhys Hoskins has an RBI. All you losers who wrote him off due to a slow start should apologies to @LibertyLinePHL and @drewmsmith on Twitter immediately.

The Phillies to date were 0-10 on the year when trailing after six innings but that changed last night thanks to none other than Bryce Harper.

Harper singled to left in the 7th to score Roman Quinn. One of MLB’s hottest rookies Alec Bohm reached on an infield single to second and scored Gregorious and the Phillies took a 3-2 lead.

I know what you’re thinking. “There’s no way the Phillies bullpen will hold a 3-2 lead. We are going to lose this game. I got news for ya – the bullpen doesn’t do that anymore.

Tommy Hunter and Brandon Workman pitched scoreless innings and the Phillies won their 3rd straight game 3-2 against the Nationals.

Checking in with Didi:

The Phillies will be on FOX tonight at 6:37pm where they send rookie / top prospect Spencer Howard to the mound to face National’s ace Max Scherzer.

Howard, who’s still getting is feet wet in the MLB, has an 0-1 record and a 6.17 ERA in three starts. Scherzer (2-1, 4.31 ERA) was 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in three starts against the Phillies last season. In his career Scherzer is 11-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 20 starts against Philadelphia.

Ring that bell, baby.

unfiltered, opinionated, and certainly do not care if you like it or not.
