Eagles cut Sidney Jones and 2 others

This afternoon the Eagles have made a flurry of roster cuts, including former 2nd round Pick Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, Shareef Miller, and more. The cut of Sidney Jones comes as a shock to many as he seemed to still have some promise left in him. Jones was a 2nd round choice in the 2017 NFL Draft. Jones coming out of Washington was deemed to be the best cornerbacks in a loaded class with players including Marshon Lattimore and several others. Jones tore his Achilles during his pro day and never fully returned to form.

Despite having a rough 2019 season, there seemed to be some hope that over time Sidney could still be a decent piece in the secondary. This cut does not come alone as Rasul Douglas was also apart of that. Douglas has had several issues in the past few years and has often been a key part of their secondary struggles the past few years, so this cut doesn’t come as a surprise. His lack of speed has been a target for Offensive Coordinators often.
Another #Eagles secondary move: CB Rasul Douglas, a former third-rounder, has been informed of his release, source said.

The Eagles cornerbacks seem very promising for 2020 including Darius Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Cre’Von LeBlanc along with a heavy amount of Safeties in Jalen Mills, Will Parks, Rodney McLeod, and Avonte Maddox.
The #Eagles are releasing DE Shareef Miller, a fourth-rounder from 2019.

Also being cut are Defensive Ends Shareef Miller and Joe Ostman. Miller has shown some promise but again is a victim of a deep positional group and fellow young Edge Josh Sweat seems to be improving better than him. Joe Ostman is also another loss for the group as the Eagles begin to cut down ahead of their week one matchup against the Washington Football Team.
