Phillies lose 2nd straight to the Mets

The Phillies lost their second straight game to the New York Mets. Bats remained silent yet again. They are now 19-17 on the year.

Andrew Knapp hit an opposite field solo HR off Jacob deGrom early to get the Phillies on the board during their Sunday afternoon matchup with the New York Mets. That was pretty much all the Phillies had against the back-to-back Cy Young winner.

Aaron Nola got hit early, and didn’t get much help in the field or at the plate from the rest of the Phillies. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 8 hits, 6 runs (3ER), 1 walk, 10 strikeouts. For the sake of consistency, the rest of the pitching staff did their best to pitch even worse that Nola did.

deGrom did what deGrom does. He pitched great, kept the pitch count low, and cruised through 7 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball. He struck out 12 and had his fastball hitting 103 MPH in the 7th inning. Unreal.

We’ll be back this afternoon with Zack Wheeler on the mound against David Peterson looking for the series split before heading home for a double header vs the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Ring that bell, baby.
