The Eagles Continue to Draft and Develop Poorly

The trend continues. When Doug Pederson said this was “the new norm”, he really meant the Eagles drafting poorly and not developing any youth. Sure, the Eagles have their money tied up on a lot of good veteran players. Players like Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz, Brandon Brooks (injured), Brandon Graham, Jason Kelce, and Desean Jackson have all performed well.
The issue is, of all those players I listed, the youngest player is 29 years old. I haven’t even mentioned guys like Alshon Jeffery or Fletcher Cox who are somehow 29 years old? These are the core players of the Eagles and they certainly won’t be around forever.
Draft Woes
That is where we transition to the draft failures of Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles. To start off, the Eagles currently have two first round picks on the roster with major question marks. The first being left tackle Andre Dillard, who is out for the season. The second would be defensive end Derek Barnett; who has simply not lived up to the hype.
The Eagles wide receiver position was a laughing stock in the league last year as they had multiple practice squad players starting at that spot. Some did step up in a big way. But after that position group being the way it was, Howie simply didn’t address it enough the last several years.
Everyone’s favorite second round receiver Arcega-Whiteside has still gone without a catch this season. Many expected him to have a major leap this season. The worst part about it is, Howie Roseman passed on many other talented receivers to draft JJAW.
The Eagles CLEARLY needed help at the linebacker position this offseason. That is really showing now after just two games.
Roseman thought it was a great idea to draft a Quarterback in the second round of the draft! But it’s okay, he suited up yesterday! A backup quarterback certainly was far more important than a starting linebacker. Especially considering the Eagles linebacking core may be the worst in the league….
I apologize. Maybe I was a little too harsh. I am simply a product of Philly sports. At the end of the day, the Eagles very well could turn this season around. Maybe a few young guys develop this year. Maybe Howie and co. have a great 2021 draft. Only time will tell. Win, lose or tie, I’m an Eagles fan till the day I die.
