Andy MacPhail Press Conference and Free Agency Update

Andy MacPhail spoke to the media today. I’m not going to sugar coat it. I have never seen someone so out of touch with not only Phillies fans, but the city of Philadelphia. Let’s get right into it.
JT Realmuto:
Andy said a whole lot of nothing about JT Realmuto and Free Agency. When asked about JT, MacFail stated that they attempted to re-sign Realmuto in 2019 and then again in 2020 but the two parties were no where close to a deal. He does however, remain optimistic that they could get something done.
Didi Gregorius
MacPhail literally did not give an answer and declined to comment on re-signing Didi Gregorius.
Front Office
Much like what John Middleton stated in his bizarre press conference with the media a few weeks ago, MacPhail echoed concerns over the virus as the reason for their slow GM search.
This answer really bugged me. First, using the pandemic as an excuse to not hire new people in the front office is just down right ridiculous. Take a look at the 76ers, Andy. They just managed to hire Doc Rivers and an entire coaching staff, as well as Daryl Morey. Don’t insult us. It can be done, much like re-signing JT and Didi.
MacPhail said that a GM wouldn’t want to get up and take a new job (worth millions) during a pandemic. I’m speechless. Is this guy really serious?
Andy continued saying that John Middleton will have a huge role in the future of the front office decision making. He however, will not be coming back after his current contract ends after next year.
Free Agency Updates:
Phil Gosselin, Heath Hembree, Adam Morgan and Blake Parker will become free agents. David Phelps, Hector Neris, and David Robertson all had their options declined. Neris however, will remain on the 40-man roster and return to arbitration.
We are looking at a ton of turnover with the Phillies roster heading into 2021. It’s just a matter of how much.
The entire ordeal with the MacPhail interview and free agency news today just managed painting a darker picture on the Phillies offseason.
