Breaking down the emergence of Eagles sensation Travis Fulgham

Just how good has the former practice squad talent been for the Eagles this season? Travis Fulgham has quite possibly given Carson Wentz the true WR1 that he has been longing for since being drafted. Bursting onto the scene in Week 4, Fulgham has quickly put the NFL on notice and hasn’t looked back since:
Leading WRs since Week 4:
- Travis Fulgham: 435 yards, 4 TDs
- Tee Higgins: 413 yards, 1 TD
- Robby Anderson: 410 yards, 0 TDs
- Stefon Diggs: 407 yards, 1 TD
- Julio Jones: 403 yards, 2 TDs
- Allen Robinson: 401 yards, 2 TDs
- DK Metcalf: 383 yards, 4 TDs

Fulgham played exceptionally well against press coverage in Sunday night’s win over Dallas. He caught 3 of 4 targets for 45 yards and a TD when in man coverage. Fulgham is producing like one of the NFL’s best; his body control and release at the line of scrimmage are as polished as they come.

Even more impressive than his production is his drive to be better. When asked about his hot start to the season, Fulgham shrugged it off:
“Yeah, that’s just kind of my personality,” Travis Fulgham said Friday. “Cool, calm, collected. Nothing has surprised me, so I just need to keep playing my game and helping this team out.”

As far as debuts for Eagles receivers go, this kind of stretch has almost been unheard of. Fulgham caught the game-winning TD in front of a national audience against San Francisco. He grabbed 10 passes the following week for 152 yards and a TD against an elite Pittsburgh defense. He followed that up with a TD catch over Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey.
It’ll only be a matter of time before defenses have to start paying more attention to him. And with Jalen Reagor and Dallas Goedert now healthy, Fulgham will have even more opportunities down the stretch.
Catching a TD over Marlon Humphrey & Marcus Peters is no fluke.

Most importantly, Fulgham has earned the trust of his franchise quarterback. Wentz targeted him 10+ times for three consecutive games and has a passer rating of 128.5 when targeting him. Fulgham has dropped the ball just one time on 44 targets and has 21 first downs. If you don’t believe in Travis Fulgham, I’m not sure what to tell you at this point.
Is that an Eagles receiver …. catching the ball …. with his hands …. in the endzone …. and getting both feet in?! pic.twitter.com/CceVucEks6
