Tender or Non-Tender: Andrew Knapp

Three down, three to go for Phillies arbitration. Next up on the list we have Phillies’ back-up possible starting catcher Andrew Knapp.
- Seranthony Dominguez – $900K
- Zach Eflin –$3.7MM
- Rhys Hoskins – $3.4MM
- Andrew Knapp – $1.0MM
- Hector Neris – $5.3MM
- Vince Velasquez – $4.0MM
Andrew Knapp exceeded all expectations in 2020. He played in 33 games, batting .278 with two home runs and 15 RBI. He finished the shortened year with an OPS of .849.
Can Knapp be the Phillies starting catcher in 2021? He certainly could be but that obviously wouldn’t be ideal. The Phillies should tender Knapp for a cheap price tag of one million and hope that they can retain JT Realmuto in Free Agency.
And please, trust me. The fact that Knapp is even being considered the Phillies’ starting catcher heading into 2021 after acquiring JT Realmuto a mere two years ago is absolutely insane. Incompetence from the Phillies front office has brought us here so we’ll just have to get through it together.
