Jalen Hurts named starter against New Orleans

According to Adam Schefter, Philadelphia will be naming Jalen Hurts the starting quarterback against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Hurts replaced Carson Wentz halfway through the 3rd quarter last week throwing 5/12 with a touchdown and interception.
Doug Pederson mentioned during his press conference yesterday that a decision had yet to be made regarding who was starting this week. Despite that, it seemed glaringly obvious that a change was looming. The Eagles are 3-8-1 and the NFC East looks to be slipping out of their hands. The New York Giants currently hold a 2 game lead over Philadelphia with 4 games remaining.
The Eagles selected Hurts in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft and he has seen limited time on the field before replacing Wentz. Hurts was often used as a running QB or in dual quarterback sets but very rarely throwing the football. With the season wrapping up it makes sense to see what they have in one of their top draft picks moving forward.
Hurts will have a difficult debut ahead of him. New Orleans is 10-2 and they command one of the best defenses in the NFL. Their secondary is led by former Eagles safety Malcom Jenkins. This will be the first time that Carson Wentz has been benched for his play. Hopefully this is a trial run to see what they have in Hurts and they will assess their future this offseason. If Wentz is moved this offseason, he will have a $34.6 dead cap hit in 2021.
