Report: Eagles block Detroit’s request to interview Dave Fipp

New Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell has requested to interview Eagles special teams coach Dave Fipp, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Birkett stated that the Eagles “aren’t willing to let him go right now.”
Fipp has been the Eagles special teams coach since 2013. Prior to that, he worked with Campbell in Miami during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The special teams unit has been strong for the Eagles up until the 2020 season:
Eagles special teams production from 2013-2019:
- 4 kickoff return TDs
- 4 punt return TDs
- 4 blocked punts for TDs
- 7 blocked kicks
- 11 blocked punts
Perhaps Fipp is next in line to be interviewed for the Eagles head coach position. More likely, the team believes that Fipp had limited personnel to work with this season. Under a new coach staff, the team will be looking for a bounce-back year from their special teams unit.
