Report: Duce Staley has asked out of his deal with the Eagles

According to reports this morning, Duce Staley wants out of Philadelphia. Staley has spent the majority of his life in Philadelphia and after getting snubbed yet again as a chance to become the Eagles head coach, this news should come as no surprise. Duce spent seven years of his playing career as a running back for the Eagles followed by 10 years as an Eagles coach.
Staley is under contract with the Eagles so if the Eagles wanted to block him from leaving, they certainly have the right to do so but given the team’s history with Duce, I would hope that the Eagles let him explore other opportunities.
Number one on the list of possible destinations for Staley would be the Chicago Bears, who have reportedly expressed interest in adding Staley to their coaching staff. Duce has several ties to the Bears, given the fact that fellow assistant coach Matt Nagy is currently the Bears head coach. Staley also previously worked with Bears offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and QB coach John DeFilippo.
With all of the recent news of additions to the Eagles head coaching staff flowing in today, it looks like new head coach Nick Sirianni is building a brand new coaching staff for the Eagles. If that’s any indication on what he plans to do in the coming days, it’s likely that we will see Duce leave Philadelphia.
We’ll keep you updated as news continues to come in.
