Flyers Sweep Series Against New Jersey

After dropping two games in Boston, the Flyers were desperately in need of a response series against the New Jersey Devils, and they got just that. A much needed four points and onto the Islanders we go.

Game One: 5-3 Win

Brian Elliott would get the start for game one and would once again look impressive. Elliott has been a bright spot on the team thus far and has stepped up in some really big spots.

JVR kicked off the scoring with two redirect powerplay goals in the first period, both on shots from Ivan Provorov. Van-Riemsdyk has actually been one of the Flyers better players to start the year and it’s really exciting to see, maybe he’s back into his 2018-19 form.

The Devils would tie the game at two and give the Flyers quite the scare, but in the third period Giroux fed Patrick on a patient play for a one-timer goal.

Farabee then buried home a rebound for the dagger.

Game Two: 3-1 Win

I’m labelling this the Carter Hart revenge game. After getting shelled by the Bruins in his last start and smashing his stick against the post, everyone was waiting to see how the young goaltender would respond. 33 saves on 34 shots on the road, Carter Hart stole this game.

Our goaltenders have been our best position so far and while some would say that’s a bad thing, it’s allowed us to accumulate wins with some really important injuries. The start to this game was looking rough with the Devils striking first and taking control, but Nate Prosser would tie the game off an Erik Gustafsson rebound. You can’t make this up, awesome moment for Nate.

The Flyers would then get outshot for the next 30 minutes of the game, and Vigneault was very adamant on not letting them off the hook for that after the game. Raffl got a greasy goal crashing the net to take the lead…

…and Giroux would get one as well off a redirect and the Flyers hung on.

The Flyers have been doing a great job of getting these hard fought wins despite some huge injuries to the team. Also, we can’t rely on our goalie to save us every game. We just can’t have 6 shots in the third period. Huge two game series coming up against those pesky Islanders… and I want revenge.

5-2-1.
