Joel Embiid earns Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January

The Process has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Embiid has earned this award twice now in his five year NBA career. He joins Allen Iverson (4), Charles Barley (2), Moses Malone (2), and Julius Erving (3) as the only 76ers players to win the award multiple times.
Over the past month, Embiid averaged 28.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.3 blocks in an average of 31.7 minutes per game. The Sixers were 14-2 in Embiid’s 16 games and are 15-6 overall on the season, sitting atop of the Eastern Conference standings.
The final week of January, Embiid averaged 35.6 points and 10.4 rebounds, shooting 56% from the field and 42% percent from three point range. The Sixers were a perfect 5-0 with Embiid on the court.
There’s no doubt that Embiid has been playing at an MVP-caliber level this season and is the key piece to the 76ers’ success. The award comes after Doc Rivers was awarded Coach of the Month honors yesterday.
