Eagles claim CB Shakial Taylor off waivers

The Eagles have made their first acquisition of the Nick Sirianni era today, claiming former Giants cornerback Shakial Taylor off waivers. Taylor did not play with New York in 2020, opting out due to COVID-19. The 24-year-old was an undrafted free agent from the University of Kansas in 2018.
Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has ties to the newly acquired cornerback. Shakial’s career began in Indianapolis singing as a UDFA following the 2018 draft before being waived following the end of training camp. The Colts brought Taylor back just a few months later and started before being waived yet again just a month later in November. Gannon was the defensive backs coach in Indy when Taylor was with the Colts.
Taylor now has a chance to push his NFL career forward around familiar faces on the coaching staff. The Eagles are thin at cornerback following the 2020 season, with both Cre’Von LeBlanc and Nickell Robey-Coleman entering free agency. Hopefully, after a year’s rest, Taylor is ready to make his next big leap in the NFL.
