Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to miss time due to contact tracing

76ers All-Stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will remain out following All-Star Weekend due to contact tracing, per Shams Charania. Embiid and Simmons’ barber tested positive for COVID-19 right before Sunday’s game and caused both to miss the event.
Joel will be out if he continues to test negative until only Friday, while Simmons will be out until Saturday. According to NBA rules, both have to quarantine for seven days following exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
The Sixers return to play on Thursday in Chicago against the Bulls. Embiid will be eligible to play the Wizards on the road on Friday if nothing changes. At the same time, Simmons will be able to return on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. Sunday’s game against the Spurs will be the 76ers first game with 3,000 fans in Wells Fargo for the first time since the suspension of play last March.
Both Embiid and Simmons missed time earlier this season due to contact tracing in early January, missing a game against the Denver Nuggets. Thursday will be Embiid’s seventh game missed through 37, while Simmons has missed four. Hopefully, the two will be well-rested and continue to test negative during the next several days.
