The Eagles will be in North Dakota today for Trey Lance’s Pro Day

The Philadelphia Eagles will send offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson to Fargo, North Dakota today. No, they are not making a home visit to check in on their recently traded ex-franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. They will be attending Wentz’s close friend, Trey Lance’s pro day.
I couldn’t even begin to describe how weird it would be if the Philadelphia Eagles selected a quarterback from North Dakota State with the number six overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. What makes this news even more puzzling is that ESPN’s Christ Mortensen reported earlier this week that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had instructed his scouting staff to move forward with Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback for the 2021 season.
If that news is true, then sending your OC and QB Coach to Fargo to scout a quarterback is even more puzzling. Given the fact that the Eagles have so many holes to fill this offseason, it’s difficult to actually know where their focus currently stands and what position they plan to address first.
Trey Lance is a 6-foot-4, 230-pound quarterback who had an incredible season for the Bison in 2019. He completed 67 percent of his passes and threw 28 touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also ran for 1,110 yards. North Dakota State went 16-0 and won the FCS national championship.
In 2020, Lance only appeared in one game for the Bison. It was North Dakota State’s single fall game and he threw for 149 yards on 15-for-30 passing with two touchdowns. Lance also threw his first career interception but the Bison walked away with a win over Central Arkansas.
North Dakota State is playing this Spring. They are 2-1 and currently ranked 5th in the FCS. Trey Lance is no longer with the program after declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. Lance is expected to throw at his pro day, but will not run or participate in agility drills. The projected top 10 pick will also have scouts from the Jets, Falcons, Lions, Panthers, Broncos, Saints, and Washington in attendance.
Don’t do it Howie. Please.
