Flyers fall in yet another brutal overtime loss to the Islanders 1-0

To say the very least, this Flyers season has not gone as planned and the puck just hasn’t bounced in their favor. Yesterday was no different. The Flyers suffered another brutal loss yesterday to the New York Islanders in overtime 1-0.. Nick Leddy scored the decision maker after his pass attempt went off Tavis Sanheim’s stick and past Brian Elliot for the win.
The Flyers are now 20-18-7 and have to overtime an astounding six times with the Islanders this season after last season where they went to OT three times in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Islanders have taken the last five games against the Flyers, four of them coming after regulation.
Even with the tough loss, the Flyers outplayed the Islanders for the majority of the game and only allowed 13 shots over the first 40 minutes. The boys just struggled to capitalize on chances. Brian Elliot churned out a strong performance in net with 27 saves, not seeing many shots through the first two periods and saving 13 in the final frame.
OTHER NOTES:
Carter Hart, still dealing with a lower-body injury, will be off the ice until Tuesday. He was scratched from his start on Saturday and the Flyers will have the day off today before returning to the ice tomorrow. In a rare occurrence, they will not play again until later this week. They will have back-to-back games against the Rangers in New York Thursday and Friday.
Cam York has been assigned to the Flyers’ taxi squad. Nolan Patrick and Tanner Laczynski both missed their second straight games but practiced Sunday at the club’s training facility.
The Flyers celebrated “Hockey Fights Cancer” yesterday and honored Oskar Lindblom during warmups.
