Who is The Most Underwhelming Player The Eagles Could Draft in Round 1?

The two biggest holes on the Philadelphia Eagles roster are without a doubt, wide receiver and cornerback. Most well-run front offices draft with the “best player available” mentality. The good news for the Eagles is that a quality corner or receiver can most likely be had whether they trade back or stay at #12. Most mock drafts have the Eagles landing a player at either of those positions, with the occasional outlier of an offensive lineman. Selecting an OL wouldn’t be the “sexy” pick, but would be a smart move nonetheless.
Devonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Jaycee Horn, Patrick Surtain, and Rashawn Slater would all be great picks for the Eagles. Of course, we could all dream of trading up and landing Ja’Marr Chase or Kyle Pitts. This leads us to the question, who would be the most disappointing player the Eagles could land?
Kwity Paye, Defensive End – Michigan
If that tweet doesn’t sum it up, I don’t know what does. The Eagles aren’t perfect at defensive end. But that doesn’t mean you take one this high in the draft. Many NFL draft scouts have Kwity Paye ranked as the 14th best overall prospect. I’ve seen some where he is the 20th ranked prospect.
This would be such a waste of resources. The Eagles went from picking at #6 (where they could’ve landed a generational receiver), to trading back and drafting a defensive end. Eagles fans might consider storming Howie Roseman’s office if this happens. I don’t want to hear about Paye’s talent or potential. This would be so incredibly underwhelming. You’d like your first-round picks to be immediate starters, not be a rotational piece on an already talented defensive line.
Christian Barmore, Defensive Tackle – Alabama
The Philadelphia Eagles have Fletcher Cox. Arguably a top-2 player at his position. That is all.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not saying either player is inferior. I’m sure both guys will be tremendous in the NFL. I just think if you ask any Eagles fan their top-5 targets in Round 1; they are certainly not naming either one of these guys.
