DeVonta Smith envisioned himself as a top talent in a different sport prior to football

DeVonta Smith had one of the most productive seasons in college football history a year ago. Football wasn’t always his dream, however, as Smith always envisioned himself as a top prospect in a different sport. DeVonta sat down with Eagles Insider Dave Spadaro and went into detail about how he eventually became a Heisman Trophy winner:
Basketball was always my first love, in high school I was still transitioning from really putting my focus to football and kinda putting basketball behind me. I thought I could be the next Rondo in the NBA. But then I had to realize what was best for me and not just do what I wanted to do. Football was always best for me, basketball was just what I wanted to do.
DeVonta Smith on what got him into football
Smith is surely athletically gifted enough to succeed at any pro sport if he put his primary focus on it. Eagles fans are just glad that he inevitably chose football and that he is now in Philadelphia.
