Flyers First Round Draft Picks Cam York and Tyson Foerster shine, Phantoms win 5-3

Check Fletcher’s duo of first round picks for the Flyers combined for five points last night as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms defeated the Hershey Bears 5-3. It all started in the beginning of the 2nd period from a Cam York point shot that deflected off of Tyson Foerster to give the 19-year old his 10th goal of the season. I can get used to watching these two play catch on the power play for the foreseeable future, both are so natural on the ice and should be fun to watch for years to come.
Speaking of natural, Cam York had a play later in the period that kind of gave me Shayne Gostisbehere vibes. Quick spin move and move your way below the goal line looking to throw it out front. He showed off his skating ability and patience at the blue line and made things happen, which is definitely what Cam York does best.
Fast forward to the beginning of the 3rd period, the Phantoms found themselves on the power play again. This time, York finds the soft spot behind the defense and walks in on goal and shows off his hands. York scored on a breakaway goal, making it 4-3 Phantoms, and improving his stat line to one goal and one assist on the night. Oh, and who found him with that DOT of a pass you might ask? Fellow first round draft pick Tyson Foerster.
You see the Flyers do the “drop it back all the way into your own zone to the guy with speed” play all the time, can’t say it’s my favorite strategy while entering a zone while you’re up a man, but it worked here. Philadelphia needed a goal scorer and found one in Cam York. Warning: This goal was absolutely disgusting.
Tyson Foerster wasn’t done with Hershey. I seriously can’t talk this kid up more, not only is he producing in a pro league as a teenager but he’s getting involved in physical play as well. Mixing it up with the opponents, scoring goals and dishing beautiful passes left and right, the kid’s doing it all.
Night Recap
In a season where the Flyers have been unwatchable, the Phantoms have been quite the complete opposite. An extremely fun team with a great mix of veteran and skilled, young players. They play hard and they stick up for each other, something so obviously missing from the Flyers this season, unless they were versing a #6-7 defenseman in Mark Friedman. Chuck Fletcher has already said he expects York to get a couple games this season with the Flyers, so we might see #44 with the Flyers soon. There’s only 3 games left for the Flyers so we’ll see if the young guns get a shot.
- Cam York: 1G-1A (2nd multiple point night as a pro)
- Tyson Foerster: 1G-2A
- Linus Hogberg: 2nd pro goal
