Another Eagles lineman is switching positions in 2021

Another Eagles lineman is making the switch to linebacker. According to Adam Caplan, Eagles defensive end Joe Ostman will be moving to linebacker this upcoming season. This announcement follows Genard Avery, who revealed he would be playing LB back in late February. Ostman was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and has spent a majority of his career on the Eaglesโ€™ practice squad.

Making the move to linebacker could help Ostman receive more playing time with Philadelphia due to a more open competition. Usually, when edge rushers make the move to linebacker, they play what is called a SAM or WILL backer, which is just outside linebacker. New defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was part of a 4-3 defense in Indy, which means just three backers. But maybe with all the changes, they could be looking at a 3-4 defense, but that seems doubtful with the Eaglesโ€™ dominant defensive line.
