Tobias Harris’ agent talks on the difference between this year and last year
The turnaround of Tobias Harris this season has been a critical piece in the Sixers’ ongoing title pursuit. When Tobi was first acquired from the Clippers, former Sixers head coach Brett Brown could not find the right fit for him and led to a decrease in production. Harris was able to take a major leap forward in 2021 under Doc Rivers, who coached him back during his time with the Clippers.
Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson spoke with Tobi’s father and agent Torrel Harris about his son’s All-Star caliber season with the Sixers and what went wrong last year. You can read the full interview between Scoop and Torrel here.
Following Tobias’ success with Doc, it didn’t take much to realize that his shortcomings came due to Brown’s utilization.
“Last year was really frustrating because I was wondering ‘Did Coach Brown — did he ever watch any film on how Tobias played on the Clippers and see how Doc utilized him versus sitting him in the corner like he did?’
This off-season’s culture shift alongside a new coaching staff has led to a dominant offense where everyone has a crucial piece. Tobias is able to work iso possessions but can also work around and find an open shot off-the-ball as well.
“He’s feeling good because it’s all about playing good team basketball. As long as the Sixers play team basketball and not individual basketball, then I think that they can go a long way.”
Tobias Harris was the main reason Philly was able to take game one over the Wizards, having 37 points on 52% shooting. The 76ers are back in action hosting Washington for game two on Wednesday night.
